Relaxing Trip to Tanjong Leman
Since it is the June Holidays and for most kids, the long awaited school holiday, I decided to treat the kids out for a trip to Nowhere last Sunday. It was suppose to be just a fishing trip to Sedili but since the kids wanted to swim and I wanted to get my itchy bum with fishing, we headed up north to Tanjong Leman Beach.
The drive there was very refreshing and relaxing. Apart from seeing Orang Asli village and driving up mountainous roads with Elephants Crossing signs passing us a few times, it was a momentous trip. The beauty about driving in Malaysia especially the country roads, the air is ever fresh especially in the wee morning. You can even see the morning mists hovering above the lush vegetation of Felda even though its 9.30am.
So in between the munching of snacks in the car and off tune singing by my siblings and me, we saw a sight that raised our eyebrows. A carcass of a dead tiger cub on the road shoulder at Felda Plantation from Sedili heading to Tanjong Leman. Poor thing must have been hit by a car.. But then if there is a tiger cub, there is surely bound to be the mother near by..
Anyway we reached Tanjong Leman at 11am or so, we headed to the beach and had to pay RM3.00 for the parking space. It was quite fun for me since in usual beaches in Singapore, we are suppose to park our car in the public car parks and then head off with our baggage to our picnic spot. But here, hehehe.. we are allowed to drive on the beach itself to our destination, even right up to the sheltered picnic spot right beside the rocky reefs.
The weather was so fine, no MR Sunshine glaring at us, soft breeze whispering on our skin and the waves.. ooh yes the waves were as docile as a new-born baby. Too bad for me, the tide was receding, so no matter how hard I throw my line, the fishes swam away happily.
Unfortunately, the place that I decided to fish was filled with rocky reefs that my bait got caught in between them. Now that was the most scariest position I’ve ever been. Since I had left my cutter in my car and the bait I used was RM4.30 each, I was inwardly quarreling with myself about whether to get my line cut or dive in and save my RM4.30 bait.
After looking at the rocky paths that I had crawled and stumbled so many times to get to my fishing spot, I decided to dive in. I had thought the water to be shallow since the water was only knee deep when I first went in. It got deeper and more rocky as I wade my way to my stuck bait. I was only 2meters away from my bait, flicked the line and the bait luckily got loose. The water then was up to my chin and waves crashing down, trying to fill my lungs with water.
After all my hard work, I didn’t manage to get a fish AGAIN. But I do however go a plastic bag full of Siput Timba. Yummy!! I knew them to be yummy cuz I used to harvest them when I was younger at Tuas Jetty. And yes, I was rock climbing and snorkeling for my yummy Siput and of course seaweeds, they make delicious food when you sprinkled some seaseme seed oil and mashed garlic.
Lunch was baked Ubi Kayu (Tapioca), bake Siput that I just caught and Burgers that was prepared in the wee morning before we went out. It was fun. Really fun. Had swimming race with the kids and of course, I won as usual. Shahrul was the winner in the Mini Tsunami maker due to his fantastic size and Ayu, well she was extremely helpful in my harvesting of Siput.
Heheh… It was a fun and educational trip for the kids. Ayu managed to learn how my elder bro and sis and me survived when we were kids and learned to differentiate the types of plants and wildlife of the sea that can be easily found and eaten, raw and cooked.
Can you believe she doesn’t even know how a snails eggs look like?!! Hahaha…
TO view the pix taken, I’ll be posting it up here
